Kyrgyzstan ♦ TOSOR-TOUR

1st and 2nd days   Flight via Istanbul and arrival in Osh
After a comfortable flight via Istanbul we arrive early the next morning in Osh. We will meet you at the airport and take you to the hotel where you can get a few hours’ rest before lunch. After a short briefing we get the bikes and familiarise ourselves with the vehicles on a short trip outside the city. We stay at the hotel.

Day 3   Day trip to Papansee and first Pass
Our first full day (about 150 km) takes us up to Papansee, the water reservoir of Osh. On unpaved dirt roads we drive South of the city along a green valley and then over one of the many passes. We head back to Osh on the good Chinese –Tajik road. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 4   Over Kaldama Pass to Kazarman
Our destination today is Kazarman, the gold mining town of Central Kyrgyzstan. To get there we choose scarcely traveled roads and paths and cross the 3000m Kaldama pass. We spend the night in a homestay with a Kyrgyz family.

Day 5   Tash Rabat Caravanserai
Today two passes over 3000m are on the program. We enjoy the vastness and remoteness of Kyrgyzstan and the huge Naryn Valley. We ride round steep switchbacks, traverse dry rivers and see grazing sheep and yaks. Our Yurt camp is located right next to the fascinating ancient Silk Road hostelry town of Tash Rabat.

Day 6   The Chinese border, Chatyr Kul lake and Naryn
Rather than take a direct route to the Naryn district and the university town, we take a worthwhile detour to the Chinese border and continue South of the large Chatyr Kul Lake and head East. On these demanding and bumpy roads our light and nimble Yamaha XTs make this enduro riding so much fun. After 210 km we look forward to a shower and a delicious dinner in Naryn.

Day 7   The Tosor pass to Lake Issyk Kul
Today’s journey takes us up the Naryn river valley. The wide valley narrows into a steep canyon and becomes the geographical highlight of our tour: the 3800m Tosor Pass. The technically challenging descent takes us down to Lake Issyk Kul, the second largest mountain lake in the world. With beautiful views of the Tien Shan range across the lake, we take a refreshing dip in the crystal clear water. We stay right on the lake in a beautiful hostel.

Day 8   Kochkor
After the last few severe days we take it easy today. Our destination is Kochkor, just 45km South West of the Western end of the Lake, known for its production of Kyrgyz felt carpets.

Day 9   Karakul Pass to Kyzyl Oi
The landscape of Kyrgyzstan is colourful and extremely varied. Around almost every corner we see another variation of the landscape. This is especially true of today’s stage. It leads us through the rarely traveled 3400m high Karakul pass to Kyzyl Oi to a wild mountain river. There we enjoy again the Kyrgyz hospitality in a welcoming Homestay.

Day 10   Very challenging circular route or a day-off in Kyzyl Oi
For the enduro riders who love rough slopes, today is a good day. A steep and boulder-strewn mountain path awaits us and demands from us the greatest concentration and driving skills. This one-day loop takes place in a very remote area, right away from civilisation. If you’d rather take a break today then you’re more than welcome to stay and relax in the village of Kyzyl Oi.

Day 11    Song Kol Lake
The Song Kol Lake and Nature Reserve is situated on a huge plateau at 3000m and is considered the pearl of Kyrgyzstan. No tour of this country is complete without it. We reach our Yurt camp right on the lake with time to spare to enjoy this idyllic place and watch the bustle of the shepherds and their flocks, grazing the lush meadows.

Day 12   Northern route to Kazarman
Today we return to the gold mining town of Kazarman,  but by the Northern route, enjoying a fantastic view over the valley towards Naryn.

Day 13   Gulcha via a beautiful gorge
We head South West, back over the Kaldama Pass and down to Uzgon, up again the other side, then down through a beautiful gorge to the confluence of 3 rivers at Gulcha.

Day 14   Panoramic ride at 3500m and return to Osh
We end this tour on a high in all senses of the word. We pass beautiful pastures and through narrow gorges and get back up again to 3500m. Here we remain on a long and winding road and are treated to an endless panorama of the snowy mountains of Kichi-Alay. Eventually we retire down to the river Ak Buura, which takes us, with heads full of wonderful images, back to Osh.

Days 15 and 16   Sightseeing and / or rest day in Osh, flight home
The last day in Kyrgyzstan we use to visit the bazaars, take in some sightseeing or to just relax after a strenuous tour. The last night we spend in a good restaurant in the city, enjoy a juicy shish kebab and recount memories of an unforgettable tour.

Early the next morning we will be transferred from the hotel to the airport, and so begins our long journey home.
